Can Priyadarshan make non-comedy movies.....

Apparently he can and he has.It seems director Priyadarshan well known for his comedies like Hera Pheri, Hungama, Hulchul ,Garam Masala to name a few, has recently made a movie called Kanchivaram, a movie that is said to be completely unlike any of his earlier movies.

The movie Kanchivaram made in Tamil is about a pre-independence era Kanchipuram silk weaver and his story unfolds against the back drop of labor unionism in South India. The lead actor for the movie is Prakash Raj and the movie is said to be garnering a lot of attention and applause at the Toronto Film Festival.Hmmm....Sounds like something to look forward to...

I bet it'll be good--Mark Twain said "Comedy is tragedy plus time" so I wouldn't be surprised to see that a comedic director has a fine eye for drama too. ;-)
